Mass Animation Project

Intel Corporation today announced a new collaborative animation project to produce a computer-generated animated short film for theatrical release. The Mass Animation Project, presented by Intel, will be open to established and aspiring animators.  

Intel is sponsoring the development and promotion of a Facebook* Page where animators will be able access a collaboration application built on the Facebook Platform, and will work together to create the animated short film. Starting this fall, artists around the world will be able to contribute by animating small pieces of a 5-minute, professional-quality animated short film.

 
Blur Gets a Film

The Hollywood Reporting is saying that Dark Horse Entertainment, David Fincher and animation house Blur Studios are teaming up to bring cult comic "The Goon" to the movies as a CG-animated film. 

Created by Eric Powell in 1999, the comic follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The stories have a paranormal and comedic edge to them and concern ghosts, zombies, mad scientists and "skunk apes." Dark Horse has been publishing the comic since 2003.

 
Planet 51 gets Sony Dist

Sony Pictures has gained US distribution rights for the CG-animated kidpic Planet 51.  TriStar will release.

Alien adventure comedy centers on an astronaut who lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first to set foot on it. To his surprise, he discovers it's inhabited by little green people who live in a white picket-fenced world reminiscent of 1950s America. Film is produced by Ilion Animation Studios.

New Line previously had distribution rights, which then turned into Warner Brothers distribution rights when NL folded into WB.  When the producers of the $50 million plus budgeted film insisted on a November release (when WB is releasing the next Harry Potter picture) WB dropped the rights.  

 
First Trailer - Bolt

On November 26th, Disney will release the CG animated film Bolt.  The first trailer is attached to Wall-E, or you can simply visit this link to see it online.  The film is being produced in Burbank at WDFA.  Bolt will be the first Disney animated feature created under John Lasseter's watch.

 
First Trailer - Tale of Despereaux

The first trailer of Tale of Despereaux  is now available .  This animated film is being produced by Universal's animation unit, who has partnered with London's Framestore to do the animation production.  Due out on December 19th.
